“California will not tolerate any form of discrimination,” California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a statement.

“We have serious concerns about the NFL’s role in creating an extremely hostile and detrimental work environment. No company is too big or popular to avoid being held responsible for their actions,” he added.

“No person should ever have to endure harassment, discrimination, or objectification in the workplace,” New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement.

“No matter how powerful or influential, no institution is above the law, and we will ensure the NFL is held accountable,” she added.

In a news release announcing the investigation, the attorneys general outline a 2022 New York Times report of 30 former employees alleging discrimination and retaliation after reporting to the league HR department, along with other reports as the impetus for opening the inquiry.

The attorneys general also cited the House Oversight Committee investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and fostering a toxic work environment in the workplace of the Washington Commanders.

The committee conducted several interviews for its investigation, which slammed the Commanders and its owner, Dan Snyder, for giving evasive answers and misleading information during his testimony in July 2022.

There are four NFL teams headquartered in California and New York: the Los Angeles Rams, the Los Angeles Chargers, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Buffalo Bills, along with the league headquarters located in Manhattan.
