Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said he thinks the Biden administration’s Department of Justice is very close to indicting Hunter Biden, but that it likely will only be used to justify its pursuit of former President Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee James Comer (R-KY) issued a subpoena to the FBI, ordering that a bureau form alleging a “criminal scheme” involving then-Vice President Joe Biden and an unnamed “foreign national” be turned over after a whistleblower told Comer and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) that it alleges a “bribery scheme.”

While speaking on Hannity, Cruz affirmed the alleged crime would be worthy of charges.

“In fact, it doesn’t have to be a high crime or misdemeanor because the Constitution specifies that impeachment lies for treason, bribery, or other high crimes or misdemeanors. Bribery is explicitly noted in the Constitution.”

“And I got to say, the evidence, not only against Hunter Biden, but the evidence against Joe Biden being complicit and profiting from this corruption, is growing and growing and growing,” the senator added. “Look, I think the Biden Department of Justice is going to end up indicting Hunter, but if they indict him just for the gun crime or just for a tax crime, they’re going to try to explain it as ‘he is a troubled soul. He’s got substance abuse issues, but look how fair we are, and now we can go target Donald Trump, which is what the Biden Department of Justice wants to do. That will be the tell.”

Investigations into Hunter Biden began in 2018 and have focused on his finances and business interactions overseas. Investigators have also looked into whether he reported all of his income and whether or not he denied being a drug abuser on a gun purchase form — therefore lying.

“If they focus on individual crimes to Hunter and they seal off what makes this a matter of public concern, which is the connection to Joe Biden [and] the millions Hunter made selling access to ‘Daddy’ when he was vice president,” Cruz said, noting that business dealings included Burisma, the Ukrainian natural gas company, and China. “10% for the ‘Big Guy.’ Merrick Garland, Biden’s attorney general, does not want to get near the growing and growing evidence of corruption going straight to the president of the United States.”

In his 2021 memoir, Beautiful Things, Hunter Biden defended his Burisma work, calling it “inspiring” and “consequential” while also admitting that “the pay was good” and that “there’s no question my last name was a coveted credential.”

Trump’s current legal battles include the E. Jean Carroll civil rape case, which went to trial in Manhattan last week.

Trump has also been charged with 34 counts of business fraud related to alleged 2016 hush money payments. The former president has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
