Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) will headline a prominent conservative Nevada PAC’s annual basque fry event in June.

The Florida governor will travel to Nevada on June 17 to take part in Morning in Nevada PAC’s 8th Annual Basque Fry.

The event is taking place at the Corley Ranch in Gardnerville, Nevada, and will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The PAC is closely tied to DeSantis ally and former Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt, who once served as its president.

Laxalt ran for Senate in 2022 with the backing of both former President Donald Trump and DeSantis. However, he ultimately lost the race to Democratic incumbent Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV).

The super PAC backing DeSantis’s still unannounced but highly expected 2024 presidential campaign, Never Back Down, confirmed to the Washington Examiner that Laxalt has since become chairman of the organization.

According to Morning in Nevada, more than 1,500 people attended last year’s basque fry. The headliner was Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), and other special guests included Laxalt, then-Republican nominee for governor, Joe Lombardo, and Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD), among others.

Lombardo ultimately bested incumbent Gov. Steve Sisolak (D-NV) and was sworn into office in January.

According to its website, “Morning in Nevada PAC was created in 2015 by friends of then-Nevada Attorney General Adam Paul Laxalt. The PAC’s mission is to identify, educate, motivate and activate citizens in Nevada to advance conservative causes and elect conservative candidates.”

The PAC’s name pays homage to late former President Ronald Reagan’s vision for a “Morning in America.”

Despite not having announced a presidential campaign yet, DeSantis has been making the rounds in several key early primary states.

Last month, the Florida governor traveled to New Hampshire, where he delivered a keynote address at the New Hampshire Republican Party’s Amos Tuck Dinner. He then traveled to South Carolina, another early primary state, making two stops to deliver public remarks.

DeSantis is widely speculated to join the 2024 presidential race at some point this month. He is currently the second most popular 2024 Republican nominee behind Trump. According to Morning Consult, Trump, who announced his campaign last year, boasts 56%, while Desantis received 22% of support among Republican primary voters.
