The National Republican Senate Committee released an advertisement Wednesday attacking Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) for flipping his view on the Inflation Reduction Act.

The advertisement says Manchin “bragged about” voting for the bill, which it claims put “West Virginia jobs at risk,” and presents video of the Democratic senator touting the bill.

Manchin is seen in a video saying he does not regret voting for the bill, with him claiming that “the Inflation Reduction Act will be the most transformative bill that we’ve ever had.”

The advertisement then claims Manchin changed his tune on the bill because of polls indicating his approval rating had dropped. A clip of Manchin is shown from last week on Fox News Channel’s Hannity, saying he “would vote to repeal” his “own bill.”

“Manchin stood with Biden, not West Virginians. Tell Joe Manchin: We won’t forget,” a narration said at the end of the video.

Manchin has criticized President Joe Biden and his administration for their implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act in recent weeks, accusing them of pursuing a “radical climate agenda” rather than energy security, which he believes the bill was intended to promote.

“This legislation was balanced,” Manchin said on Hannity. “In the next 10 years, we are going to have enough fossil fuel to run our country and to help our allies around the world. We will also be investing in new technology for the future. Now, the Biden administration has disregarded this completely.”

The West Virginia Democrat has not announced whether he will seek reelection to his Senate seat in 2024, but has said he “will win any race I enter.”

If Manchin does decide to run, he will face a significant challenge from the GOP in the heavily Republican state.

Popular Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV) announced last week he is running for the Senate, after Rep. Alex Mooney (R-WV) announced a bid for the seat in November 2022.

Recent polling suggests Justice holds a significant advantage in opinion polling compared to the incumbent senator, with a 66% approval rating compared with Manchin’s 38% approval rating.
