The House Ways and Means Committee is holding an accountability hearing with Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Daniel Werfel.
The hearing is titled “Hearing on Accountability and Transparency at the Internal Revenue Service with IRS Commissioner Werfel.” In the hearing, Werfel is likely to face questions regarding the $80 billion in supplemental funding the agency received through the Inflation Reduction Act last year.
He may also face questions regarding the recent IRS whistleblower scandal, in which a career IRS criminal supervisory special agent, who implied he was working on the Hunter Biden investigation, claimed that the criminal investigation has been infected by “politics” and “preferential treatment.” His allegations “contradict sworn testimony to Congress by a senior political appointee” and “involve failure to mitigate clear conflicts of interest in the ultimate disposition of the case” against Hunter Biden.

The White House has denied any interference in the Department of Justice investigation.
The hearing will be Werfel’s first appearance before Congress since he was sworn in by the Senate last month in a bipartisan vote. The hearing is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
