White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre cleaned up an answer from Tuesday’s press briefing regarding President Joe Biden‘s intention to serve out the entirety of his second term in office should he win reelection in 2024.

Jean-Pierre faced a number of questions regarding Biden’s newly announced campaign but declined to answer nearly all inquiries regarding the announcement by citing the Hatch Act.

Still, pressed on whether or not the president intends to serve “all eight years,” Jean-Pierre changed her answer, stating that she’s “not going to get ahead of the president.”

“That’s something for him to decide,” she continued. “There’s a 2024 campaign — anything related to that, I would refer you to that.”

Following the briefing, Jean-Pierre tweeted a clarification of her remarks.

“As you know, we take following the law seriously,” she wrote. “So I wanted to be sure that I didn’t go into 2024 more than is appropriate under the law. But I can confirm that if re-elected, [Biden] would serve all 8 years.”

Though Biden has slowly been making a case for voters to help him “finish the job” in the coming election cycle, he did not declare his 2024 candidacy until Tuesday morning.

However, numerous polls indicate that the majority of Democrats do not want him to be the party’s nominee. A recent poll from NBC found that just 26% of all voters wanted Biden to run again, while 70% do not.
