Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis warned Georgia police to prepare for possible violence this summer because the decision of whether former President Donald Trump will be indicted is expected to be announced.

Trump became the first president in U.S. history to be indicted in April. A New York grand jury indicted him on charges related to an alleged hush money scheme connected to an alleged affair he had with porn star Stormy Daniels. Willis’s announcement adds credibility to the idea that Trump will be indicted again over the summer. The Georgia case is related to his allies’ efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

In a letter to local law enforcement, obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Willis urged “heightened security and preparedness.” She said to be prepared because her announcement “may provoke a significant public reaction.”

“In the near future, I will announce charging decisions resulting from the investigation my office has been conducting into possible criminal interference in the administration of Georgia’s 2020 General Election,” Willis wrote. “I am providing this letter to bring to your attention the need for heightened security and preparedness in coming months due to this pending announcement.”

“Open-source intelligence has indicated the announcement of decisions in this case may provoke a significant public reaction,” she continued. “We have seen in recent years that some may go outside of public expressions of opinion that are protected by the First Amendment to engage in acts of violence that will endanger the safety our (sic) community. As leaders, it is incumbent upon us to prepare.”

Willis says her announcement will come sometime between July 11 and Sept. 1.

“Please accept this correspondence as notice to allow you sufficient time to prepare the Sheriff’s Office and coordinate with local, state and federal agencies to ensure that our law enforcement community is ready to protect the public,” she added.

Similar concerns about a violent reaction from Trump supporters were voiced before his first indictment.
