“At around 22:15 Moscow time on April 20, when a Su-34 plane of the Russian Aerospace Forces was performing a flight above the city of Belgorod, an emergency release of an air ordnance occurred,” the Russian Defense Ministry, per Russian state media, Tass said.

Governor of the Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram, “Three were injured, one person refused hospitalization, one resident was diagnosed with a closed craniocerebral injury, concussion, nothing threatens life, all the necessary assistance is provided. And one elderly woman became ill, her blood pressure rose very much. She was hospitalized.”

The explosion took place at the intersection of Vatutin Avenue and Gubkin Street, and it left a crater with a radius of about 20 yards, according to state media outlet RIA Novosti. Gladkov also said several parked cars were damaged and power lines were knocked down in the blast.

The Su-34 planes can carry many different munitions, including air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles in addition to guided and unguided bombs, according to CNN.

These aircraft “will constitute the basic strike power of Russian frontline aircraft,” a Tass report from December said. “The upgraded Su-34 warplane features extended combat capabilities enabling it to employ advanced air-launched munitions, increase the range of striking ground and naval targets and expand the conditions and accuracy of bombing runs.”
