Facebook users eligible to claim payment from $725 million settlement

Many Facebook users can partake in a settlement worth $725 million from the social media company.
The settlement was approved by a California judge after Facebook users claimed the social media giant had allowed users’ data to be accessible to outside sources without their approval. It is estimated that somewhere between 250 million and 280 million Facebook users, who created a Facebook account sometime between May 24, 2007, and Dec. 22, 2022, are eligible to claim a part in this settlement, according to USA Today.

While Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has denied the allegations, the company has still agreed to pay the $725 million settlement “to avoid the costs and risks of a trial,” according to the settlement website.
To submit a claim, Facebook users can file a claim online and fill out the information needed. Alternatively, users can also mail a printed form to:

Anyone who has multiple Facebook accounts should file for the account they have had the longest.

All applications must be submitted by Aug. 25, 11:59 p.m. PST. It is unknown how much one will get paid from this settlement, as it will depend on how many people file and how long a user had a Facebook account during the eligibility period.
The final approval hearing for this settlement is scheduled for Sept. 7. Claims will likely be paid out after the court grants its final approval and any appeals to the settlement are resolved.
