Robert F. Kennedy Jr. launched his presidential campaign on Wednesday at an event in Boston, making him President Joe Biden‘s second challenger in the Democratic field.
Kennedy, the son of former Sen. Robert F. Kennedy (D-NY) and the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, blasted the “corrupt merger of state and corporate power” in his opening speech.

“My mission over the next 18 months of this campaign and throughout my presidency will be to end the corrupt merger of state and corporate power that is threatening now to impose a new kind of corporate feudalism in our country; to commoditize our children, our purple mountain’s majesty; to poison our children and our people with chemicals and pharmaceutical drugs; to strip-mine our assets; to hollow out the middle class and keep us in a constant state of war,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy is an environmental lawyer and has been labeled as an anti-vaccine activist for his outspoken criticism of vaccines, specifically amid the COVID-19 pandemic but even before 2020.
He is the second challenger to Biden, who has not announced his intention to run for reelection, along with author Marianne Williamson, who launched her bid in February. Both candidates are considered long-shot challengers to Biden.

Biden is expected to announce his reelection bid later this year but is reportedly in no rush to confirm. Most major Democratic 2024 contenders, including Govs. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and J.B. Pritzker (D-IL), are backing Biden for the 2024 election.
On the GOP side, former President Donald Trump is the front-runner, with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) widely seen as his chief rival. Other Republicans who have announced bids include former Govs. Nikki Haley (R-SC) and Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) and author and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
