A self-identified Los Angeles gang member and convicted felon has confessed to killing a 60-year-old man and wounding three others Saturday after the group worked to cover his gang’s graffiti, authorities said.
Jamal Jackson, 24, and fellow gang members had “tagged” the wall of an ice cream shop in the city’s Northridge area and did not take it well when they saw the would-be victims painting over it, he said, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

When he saw the group attempting to cover the graffiti, he got out of a white sedan, approached them, and used a semiautomatic “Uzi”-style handgun to gun them down, according to a report.
“He broke down crying and was very remorseful,” Detective Gabe Bucknell said, referring to Jackson.
None of the victims appear to be affiliated with any gang activity, Bucknell said, but the area where they were shot is a gang-contested area.

Jackson was taken into custody Sunday, and the report noted he had been arrested on multiple occasions related to domestic violence, grand theft auto, and illegal firearm possession charges.
When he committed the crime, he had been on probation for carrying a concealed firearm, Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney John Hatami said.
