A former Planned Parenthood official in Connecticut killed himself Tuesday following a botched attempt to arrest him on charges related to child pornography.

Former Director of Strategic Communications at the Southern New England branch of Planned Parenthood Tim Yergeau, 36, committed suicide after authorities botched an attempt to arrest him when they mistakenly bashed in the door of his neighbor’s home, according to a report.

“The person who died was definitely the suspect in a child pornography investigation and the person who committed suicide,” New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson said.

The botched arrest occurred five days prior to Yergeau’s death, and members of the Special Victims Unit even handcuffed the former Planned Parenthood official’s neighbor, the report noted.

“They obviously hit the wrong door,” Jacobson said. “Unfortunately, a mistake was made.”

“We feel for the woman and we’re going to do everything we can to make it right.”

Although the police chief did not confirm that Yergeau was the suspect in the child pornography case, the Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner confirmed that the 36-year-old died via suicide.

After his departure from Planned Parenthood, Yergeau was employed by the Long Wharf Theatre.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn the developments of the last 24 hours,” a group spokesperson said. “Given the difficult news, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

Two investigations related to the Yergeau case remain open, according to a report, and authorities in the area are investigating the botched raid.
