White House to host Naomi Biden’s wedding Saturday

The White House will host its 19th wedding on Saturday when President Joe Biden‘s granddaughter ties the knot in a ceremony on the South Lawn.
Naomi Biden, daughter of Biden son Hunter Biden, and her fiance Peter Neal will hold their wedding ceremony and accompanying reception at the White House.

Biden, 28, is a lawyer in Washington, D.C., and Neal, 25, is a recent graduate of law school who had previously interned at the White House during the Obama administration, according to Newsweek.
The couple met in 2018 after being set up on a date by a mutual friend, and they currently reside on the third floor of the White House, according to the Washington Post.
Biden announced the wedding ceremony location in a tweet in July, saying, “We’ll be getting married on the South Lawn! Couldn’t be more excited.”
In July, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that the wedding will not be funded by taxpayers.
The wedding, which will be attended by the president and first lady Jill Biden, will be the first one staged at the White House since the Obama administration, when White House photographer Pete Souza married Patti Lease in a ceremony in the Rose Garden.
The first documented wedding at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue was between Lucy Payne Washington, the sister of then-first lady Dolley Madison, and then-Supreme Court Associate Justice Thomas Todd in 1812, according to the White House Historical Association. The only president to wed at the White House was then-President Grover Cleveland, who married Frances Folsom in the Blue Room in June 1882.

More recently, President George W. Bush held a reception in June 2008 for his daughter Jenna’s wedding to Henry Hager, which happened a month earlier in Texas.
Biden and Neal’s wedding will be only the second held in November and the first documented ceremony to be held on the South Lawn.
