Gov. Andy Beshear (D-KY) revealed that two friends died amid the shooting rampage at a Louisville bank.

Five people were killed, and at least eight were transported to a nearby hospital, two of which were in critical condition, according to police. Beshear noted that a third friend is in the hospital and was optimistic they would make a recovery.

“This is awful. I have a very close friend that didn’t make it today, and I have another close friend who didn’t, either. And one who’s at the hospital that I hope is going to make it through,” Beshear said at a press conference Monday.

Police said the suspected shooter died. Officers exchanged fire with the suspect. Authorities believe the suspect had a connection to Old National Bank before carrying out the massacre, according to Louisville Metro Police Department Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey.

“We got to do what we have done over the last three years after everything. We’ve got to wrap our arms around these families,” Beshear added. “Don’t be afraid to get some help. Our bodies and our minds are not meant to go through these types of tragedies.”

Beshear described Old National Bank as “my bank” and noted his prior connections to the institution during his campaign for attorney general. He also urged victims of the attack to reach out for help if needed.

“My AG campaign was out of that building. I know virtually everyone in it — that’s my bank. I hope that they will all reach out and get the help that they need. There are a lot of people that are hurting today. And if we have a place to focus our energy, I hope it is to surround them with love and compassion,” he added.

Since the start of the month, there have been at least 15 mass shootings in the United States, according to data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive. Last month, the nation was rocked by the Covenant school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, which left three children and three adults dead.

Gov. Bill Lee’s (R-TN) wife said she lost one of her best friends in that tragic attack.
