President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden hosted young children and their families at the White House Monday for Biden’s second Easter Egg Roll as president.

The Bidens opted to carry over 2022’s theme, “EGGucation,” over into 2023, which White House officials say will transform “the South Lawn and Ellipse into a school community, full of fun educational activities for children of all ages to enjoy.” The president did not host the annual event in 2021 due to COVID-19 distancing requirements.

“As a teacher, I’ve seen again and again, learning doesn’t only happen in the classroom,” the first lady said during her opening remarks at the event. “There are so many fun opportunities to learn around us every day. And that’s what we wanted to celebrate with our Easter Egg Roll.”

White House officials estimate that 30,000 people, “including thousands of military and veteran families, caregivers, and survivors,” will take part in this year’s roll. Invitees also include the families of the USS Delaware and the USS Gabrielle Giffords, the two naval vessels sponsored by the first lady.

Earlier in the day, the president also addressed his plans for 2024.
