White House blasts GOP’s Hunter Biden investigations as ‘long-debunked conspiracy theories’

The White House legal team is shrugging off House Republicans’ zealous plans to investigate Hunter Biden as “politically-motivated attacks” rife with “long-debunked conspiracy theories.”

As House Republicans previewed a game plan for its inquiry into the younger Biden with their threadbare majority, a spokesperson for the White House Counsel’s Office insinuated that the GOP was prioritizing “political revenge” against the president over addressing kitchen table issues.

GOP CLAIMS JOE BIDEN WAS INVOLVED WITH HUNTER BIDEN’S INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS DEALS

“Instead of working with President Biden to address issues important to the American people, like lower costs, congressional Republicans’ top priority is to go after President Biden with politically-motivated attacks chock full of long-debunked conspiracy theories,” the White House Counsel’s Office’s spokesman Ian Sams told the Washington Examiner.

Republicans had long foreshadowed plans to turn up the heat on Hunter Biden, and now that they’ve retaken the House, that endeavor is beginning to take shape. Rep. James Comer (R-KY), who is expected to become the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, recently claimed that President Joe Biden was involved in his son’s overseas business dealings.

The younger Biden has been weathering an investigation from law enforcement for potential tax crimes, the purchase of a firearm that he should have been barred from buying due to his drug addiction, and his overseas business dealings.

Last month, the Washington Post reported that federal officials believe they accumulated sufficient evidence to impose criminal charges against him for various tax offenses and a false statement about a gun purchase.

In the upper chamber, the younger Biden has faced scrutiny from Sens. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, both of whom recently won their respective reelections. They have raised questions about federal law enforcement’s handling of the Hunter Biden inquiry and shared over 200 pages of investigative materials with prosecutors in the case last month.

“President Biden is not going to let these political attacks distract him from focusing on Americans’ priorities, and we hope congressional Republicans will join us in tackling them instead of wasting time and resources on political revenge,” Sams said.

Comer has told CNN that while he plans to subpoena Hunter Biden, he does not yet have plans to subpoena the president. His remarks come as former President Donald Trump has defied a subpoena demand from the Jan. 6 committee and filed a court petition to quash it.

Meanwhile, groups aligned with Biden, such as the Congressional Integrity Project, have dusted off plans to push back against the Hunter Biden investigations and ratchet up the defense for the Bidens.
