Youngkin announces first international trade trip to Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea

Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) announced on Tuesday that he will lead his first delegation on an international trade mission to Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea this month.

From April 24-29, the governor will travel to Tapei City, Taiwan; Tokyo, Japan; and Seoul, South Korea.

“I’m excited to represent the Commonwealth in my first trade mission to Asia that will focus on economic development opportunities, our shared priorities, and national security,” he said of the trip.

“Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea represent critical markets that will advance economic growth and prosperity in Virginia. In strengthening these relationships, we are not only reaffirming our commitment to our allies but also strengthening the spirit of Virginia and America,” Youngkin added.

The governor will meet with the President of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen, as well as various government officials. He will further consult with business associations and industry leaders in order to strengthen the economic and cultural network of the commonwealth of Virginia.

According to a press release, “Virginia is home to many foreign-owned business establishments — including 5 from Taiwan, 133 from Japan, and 25 from South Korea.”
