DeSantis’s job approval rating in Florida jumps to four-year high: Poll

Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R-FL) job approval rating jumped to a four-year high, furthering his Sunshine State glow as he mulls a 2024 run.

DeSantis’s job performance approval rating sits at 59% favorable to 39% disapproval with 2% unsure, according to a Mason-Dixon poll. That marks a four-point jump since September before the midterm elections when his approval was at 55%.

The survey also marks DeSantis’s strongest job approval ratings pegged by Mason-Dixon since March 2019, when he earned a 62% approval rating with 24% disapproving and 14% unsure. Last November, DeSantis cruised to a double-digit reelection victory, riding a Republican red wave in the Sunshine State.

In terms of general favorability, DeSantis dips a bit, with 53% favorable compared to 36% unfavorable. Meanwhile, his top 2024 GOP foe, former President Donald Trump, claimed 39% favorable to 50% unfavorable, and President Joe Biden snagged 33% favorable to 54% unfavorable, respectively, according to the poll.

Among Republican voters, DeSantis enjoys an 87% favorability rating to 7% negative, while Trump is at 71% favorable and 19% negative, according to the poll.

The Mason-Dixon poll was conducted from March 27 to March 30 among 625 registered voters via telephone with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points for the general sample of voters. For the Republicans subset, the poll included 507 Republicans with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4. percentage points.

DeSantis also topped Trump in the poll just a hair above the margin of error by 44% to 39% among Florida Republicans, according to the poll. Florida has 125 delegates out of the total 2,467 up for grabs in the GOP cycle. Trump has enjoyed a boost in GOP polls following the Manhattan grand jury’s vote to indict him.

Trump is the GOP front-runner, with DeSantis running second in a hypothetical 2024 GOP primary, according to the latest RealClearPolitics polling aggregate. DeSantis is expected to unveil his 2024 plans after the Florida state legislature wraps up its business in May.

Multiple surveys in early primary states show DeSantis running competitively with Trump in head-to-head matchups. However, the former president’s edge tends to grow when other 2024 hopefuls are added to the mix.
