Warnock airs ad attacking Walker for connection to Trump ahead of runoff election

With less than three weeks until the runoff election in Georgia between Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Herschel Walker, the Democratic incumbent is hitting out against his Republican challenger by tying him to former President Donald Trump in his latest round of attack ads.
In the latest ad, the clip features comments from Trump on Tuesday as he announced his third White House bid, a move that has made some Republicans uneasy because they say he should’ve waited until all midterm results have been finalized.

“We must all work very hard for a gentleman and a great person named Herschel Walker, a fabulous human being who loves our country and will be a great United States senator,” Trump says in the ad. “Get out and vote for Herschel, and he deserves it.”
Warnock’s ad mirrors a larger strategy played by some Democrats during the midterm cycle as the party sought to paint their Republican opponents as far-right extremists, particularly those who echoed Trump’s claims the 2020 election was stolen.
The strategy has seemed to pay off in some key races, including the New Hampshire Senate race and the Pennsylvania governor’s race. Elsewhere, other Trump-backed candidates lost their crucial Senate races, handing a slim majority in the upper chamber to Democrats with one Senate seat still up for grabs.

The Senate race between Warnock and Walker advanced to a runoff after neither candidate garnered more than 50% of the vote during the general election, per state law. Warnock was leading Walker by about 36,000 votes but only managed to capture 49.4% of the electorate. Some Republicans have expressed concerns that Trump’s decision to announce his reelection bid would negatively affect the Georgia runoff election.
