An exonerated member of the Central Park Five released a one word response to former President Donald Trump‘s indictment on Thursday.

New York City Council Candidate Yusef Salaam called the ruling “karma” after news broke that a grand jury indicted Trump on charges related to a hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016.

DONALD TRUMP INDICTED: FORMER PRESIDENT REPORTEDLY CHARGED IN MANHATTAN HUSH MONEY CASE

Salaam was exonerated by a judge in 2002 in the 1989 rape of a 28-year-old jogger. Prior to the exoneration of Salaam and four other black and Latino men, the former president took out a one page ad that called for the death penalty after the 1989 attack.

“In a country that’s supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, they saw the color of our skin and said ‘guilty, guilty, guilty,’” Salaam said when announcing his bid for city council last month. “It would have been OK if Donald Trump had taken out a full-page ad when we were found to be innocent.”

Thursday’s indictment marks the first time a former U.S. president has been criminally charged, setting the stage for what could be an unprecedented trial as Trump seeks a return to the White House in 2024.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will likely attempt to negotiate for Trump’s surrender to his office in the coming days. If Trump complies in accordance with the request, the former president would be photographed and fingerprinted in a New York state courthouse.
