‘My mother didn’t raise a hypocrite’: Brendan Fraser says he’ll skip Golden Globes

Actor Brendan Fraser is taking a stand against the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and will not be attending the 2023 Golden Globes awards, saying “my mother didn’t raise a hypocrite.”
Fraser is disappointed with the response given to him by the HFPA, which puts on the Golden Globes, regarding sexual assault accusations against the organization’s former president and member Philip Berk.

“I have more history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association,” Fraser told GQ magazine when asked if he would attend the Golden Globes if invited. “No, I will not participate. It’s because of the history that I have with them.”
Fraser alleged Berk groped and assaulted him during a 2003 luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Berk has disputed the accusations, and an investigation by the HFPA dismissed the situation as a “joke.”
“Although it was concluded that Mr. Berk inappropriately touched Mr. Fraser, the evidence supports that it was intended to be taken as a joke and not as a sexual advance,” a statement from the HFPA read, according to a report.
“My mother didn’t raise a hypocrite,” Fraser said, sticking to his decision to skip the Golden Globes. “You can call me a lot of things, but not that.”

Fraser said his decision to previously share about his alleged interaction with Berk initially “made me retreat” from Hollywood, yet it has since become “liberating” and provided a “weight removed.”
Fraser is a likely front-runner for an award for his role in The Whale, a movie about a 600-pound man who can’t leave his apartment.
