The deadline to file federal income taxes is on April 18 this year, but a handful of states have separate deadlines for their state taxes.
Most states also have their deadline to file state taxes in line with the federal income deadline, but some states give residents up to an extra month to file their state taxes. Anyone who lives in one state but works in another one will usually need to file a state tax return for both their resident state and the area where their employer is located, which applies to remote workers as well, according to eFile.

Virginia
Virginia residents have until May 1 to file their state taxes. This deadline also applies to requesting an extension, which, if granted, will give taxpayers until Oct. 15 to file their taxes.

Iowa
Similar to Virginia, residents of the Hawkeye State have until May 1 to file their state taxes.
Delaware
Delaware residents have an extra day to file their state taxes compared to Virginia and Iowa residents, with a due date set for May 2.

Residents of the Pelican State may have until May 15 to file their state tax returns, the latest out of all the states for when state taxes are due.
Some states, including Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming, do not require residents to file a state tax return at all, allowing the residents to focus on the federal tax deadline on April 18. Tennessee and New Hampshire, meanwhile, have no income taxes for earned income in their state.
