News media network CNN is anticipating laying off its workforce in early December.

Its new CEO, Chris Licht, confirmed the layoffs in a town hall meeting with staff moderated CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota, per Business Insider. While Licht previously promised earlier this year that there would not be any layoffs, he said he was going off of what was known at the time.

Those who will be laid off will receive anywhere from a 60- to 90-day notice.

The network recently switched up its election night anchors for the first time in 18 years, replacing Wolf Blitzer with Jake Tapper. The network has seen decreasing election night ratings since 2016, when it hit a then-record of 13.3 million viewers. Fox News would go on to beat that record in 2020, with almost 14 million viewers. CNN came in second that year, with 9.1 million viewers, but it quickly recovered the following Saturday, gaining in the top spot.
