Carolyn Maloney comes around on Biden 2024, saying he’s ‘too busy to die’

Once a public skeptic, former Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) is now changing her tune about President Joe Biden seeking reelection in 2024.
“He’s cooking with gas, man! I’ve never seen a record like this,” Maloney told NBC, underscoring that he has earned a second term in office.

Concerns about Biden’s age have haunted his likely but not yet announced reelection campaign. Biden is already the oldest president in U.S. history at 80 and would be 82 at the start of a hypothetical second term and 86 by its conclusion. Polls and focus groups have identified unease about his age in the minds of some voters.
“You’ve got to realize that there is a change in the health of Americans. Americans are living longer,” Maloney, 77, countered. “If you look at Biden … he’s too busy to die.”
During her 2022 primary cycle, in which redistricting havoc pitted her on a collision course with Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Maloney cast doubt on whether Biden would seek reelection. She later reiterated that uncertainty while clarifying that she wanted him to run.
“Mr. President, I apologize. I want you to run. I happen to think you won’t be running, but when you run or if you run, I will be there 100%. You have deserved it. You are a great president, and thank you for everything you’ve done,” Maloney told CNN last August.
Maloney was ultimately bested by Nadler in the primary.

Biden has consistently stated that he “intends” to run for reelection in 2024 and has the blessing of first lady Jill Biden. He is rumored to be eyeing a campaign launch date next month, though the timetable has shifted.
Over recent weeks, Joe Biden has struck a combative message against Republicans, juxtaposing his policies on Social Security and Medicare with them. He has also traveled to key states such as Wisconsin and Florida.
