Trump says top officials investigating him ‘should be removed immediately’

Former President Donald Trump called for the ouster of the top officials spearheading investigations against him as his legal woes pile up.
Professing his innocence and railing against the flurry of inquiries, Trump argued that top officials were unfairly targeting him and ignoring more pressing concerns.

“District Attorney Bragg is a danger to our Country, and should be removed immediately, along with Radical Lunatic Bombthrower Jack Smith, who is harassing and intimidating innocent people at levels not seen before, ‘Get Trump’ Letitia James, the worst Attorney General in the United States, and Atlanta D.A. Fani Willis, who is trying to make PERFECT phone calls into a plot to destroy America,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump fueled a frenzy this week by suggesting that he “will be arrested on Tuesday,” a dubious prediction that never came to fruition. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office has been mulling charges against Trump stemming from an alleged $130,000 hush money payment wired to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016.
His campaign reportedly hauled in $1.5 million within the three days since issuing that cryptic warning. Bragg is reportedly weighing a felony charge against Trump for the alleged falsification of business documents on a reimbursement scheme for the Daniels payment paired with a campaign finance violation. A grand jury on the matter could meet next Monday.
Simultaneously, special counsel Jack Smith is overseeing a Justice Department investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, coinciding efforts to thwart the 2020 election, and the Mar-a-Lago classified document ordeal. This week, Smith won a court ruling to compel Trump lawyer Evan Corcoran to relinquish documents related to calls with prosecutors.
New York Attorney General Letitia James is waging a $250 million civil fraud suit against Trump, members of his family, and his business empire. A trial date is expected to come by Oct. 2, according to a judge overseeing the litigation.
Trump’s legal team has sought to nix an inquiry by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis into whether crimes were committed by Trumpworld efforts to meddle in the 2020 election in Georgia.

Trump is the front-runner in the GOP 2024 primary for the presidency. An indictment of a former president is unprecedented, though former President Ulysses S. Grant was arrested in 1872 for speeding.
Behind the scenes, Trump has reportedly thought of ways to intensify the drama of his expected arrest, including by being handcuffed during his appearance and suggesting that he’d win reelection if he were to get shot.
