Country singer Maren Morris says ‘arrest me’ for introducing two-year-old to drag queens

Country music star Maren Morris told Tennessee to “f****** arrest me” on Monday night for bringing her then-two-year-old son to a drag event and introducing him to the various drag queens.
“And yes, I introduced my son to some drag queens today, so Tennessee, f****** arrest me,” she said in a clip from the event.

The event, “Love Rising: Let Freedom Singe (And Dance),” was a concert slated as “a celebration of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” It benefited the Tennessee Equality Project, inclusion tennessee, OUTMemphis, and the Tennessee Pride Chamber.

It was put on by music streaming service Veeps in partnership with the Looking Out Foundation, which “amplifies the impact of music by empowering those without a voice.”
The concert took place at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
“I brought my son here earlier today for soundcheck, and he’s turning three this week, and we got to go in the room where all the queens were getting ready and doing their makeup. And he freaked out when he went in there because it’s just magic what drag queens do,” Morris explained at the event, per Variety.

“There’s wigs everywhere, and the smell of hairspray and wig glue; there’s glitter; everyone’s in a good mood. It’s just like a room of love. And we went back to my dressing room and my son is like, ‘I need the queens!’ I’m like, uh, you’re looking at her?” she added.
The event comes as Gov. Bill Lee (R-TN) recently signed two bills into law that restrict drag performances in public and prohibit doctors from providing certain treatments and procedures for the purpose of gender transition to minors.
Some of the other artists who performed at the event included Sheryl Crow, Hayley Williams, and Hozier, among others.
Country duo Brothers Osborne shared a tweet on Monday telling fans that they wouldn’t be able to make it to the concert. According to the duo, John Osborne’s wife was in labor with their twins, preventing them from being in attendance.
They told those who were going to be at the event to “show the world what our town is made of and let’s fight to keep Nashville full of the love, light, and inclusivity that it is known for.”

Morris previously made headlines for taking a jab at fellow country star Jason Aldean’s wife, Brittany, for making a comment about the growing prevalence of socially and medically gender-transitioned children in the United States.
“I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life,” Brittany said on Instagram last year.

“It’s so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie,” Morris wrote in a subsequent tweet conversation, presumably about Brittany, given the timing and context of the discussion.
She later said, “I don’t feel comfortable going” to the CMA awards, despite being nominated. She didn’t say that it was because of Brittany, however. Ultimately Morris did attend, but only to see the announcement of Album of the Year, which she was up for. She departed soon after.
