Transgender athlete takes first place in women’s NYC cycling race

A transgender athlete took first place this weekend in an amateur New York City female cycling race.

Tiffany Thomas, a biological male who identifies as a transgender woman, is affiliated with Los Angeles women’s cycling group LA Sweat and stood between two biological women atop the winner’s podium for the Randall’s Island Crit.

“Tiffany is a scientist by day, athlete by night. Her favorite organ are the blood cells,” according to LA Sweat.

“You will never see anyone with a bigger smile than when she sees a beautiful electron microscopy picture of a red cell. She has never met a barbell, a bike, or a dog that she doesn’t like. She is so incredibly excited to race and represent the LA Sweat team this year!!!” the website read.

Saturday’s win is not the first time Thomas has made a podium appearance, according to a report.
