Mitch McConnell ‘alive and well’ amid recovery from tumble

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is “alive and well,” chomping at the bit to get back to his work in the upper chamber amid rehab from his accident earlier this month, according to his GOP colleagues.
McConnell, who was briefly hospitalized with a concussion and rib fracture from a March 8 fall at a Waldorf Astoria private dinner, appraised his colleagues about his condition during multiple phone calls, NBC reported.

“[He’s] alive and well and doing fine,” Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) said, per the New York Post.
Following observation at the hospital, McConnell was discharged and transferred to a rehabilitation clinic on March 13, where he is recovering from his wounds. Last week, McConnell largely communicated with his peers via text, per NBC.
“He sounded very sharp,” Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) said, per the report. “I think just frustrated, as you might imagine, having to go through all this.”
“I told him not to be in a big hurry, because we’re not doing anything here,” Cornyn added.
In McConnell’s absence, Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) has supervised the GOP conference with help from the Kentucky sage’s aides.
“He sounded like Mitch,” Thune recalled, explaining that McConnell was keenly interested in the happening of the Senate. “He’s anxious to get back.”
An exact timeline for when McConnell will return remains murky. The Washington Examiner contacted representatives for comment.
His recovery coincides with other absences in the upper chamber, which hasn’t had a full member vote in seven months amid a bevy of injuries and ailments afflicting members. Sens. John Fetterman (D-PA) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) have also been out of the chamber for various reasons.

Fetterman checked himself in the hospital last month to undergo treatment for clinical depression. Days before that check-in, he also underwent a brief hospital stint for feeling lightheaded, something doctors reportedly speculated was linked to treatment for his blood pressure. Fetterman may leave the facility by the end of the month, according to reports.
Meanwhile, Feinstein is reportedly at home in California recovering from a bout of shingles.
