Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took to Twitter to espouse Rep. Dan Crenshaw‘s (R-TX) bill that would “declare war” on Mexican drug cartels.

If passed, the legislation would follow through with several congressional Republicans’ threats to authorize use of the U.S. military against cartels south of the border. The calls for military action reached a fever pitch following the kidnapping of four American tourists recently. Two of the Americans were murdered.

The bill, titled the Authorization for the Use of Military Force to Combat, Attack, Resist, Target, Eliminate, and Limit, or AUMF CARTEL, Influence Resolution, was first introduced on Jan. 12. It was referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and was awaiting action at the time of publishing.

The bill pledges “to authorize the use of United States Armed Forces against those responsible for trafficking fentanyl or a fentanyl-related substance into the United States or carrying out other related activities that cause regional destabilization in the Western Hemisphere.”

It goes on to list nine separate cartels that would be targeted by the resolution, including the Sinaloa, Jalisco New Generation, and Gulf cartels.

“I’m proud to co-sponsor @RepDanCrenshaw’s legislation to declare WAR on the Mexican cartels,” Greene tweeted. “We must authorize the use of military force to eliminate the thugs who are smuggling drugs and illegal aliens across our southern border, leading to crime and the murder of countless Americans. While cartel members wait for their fate to be sealed by our great military, we will put a hit on their bank accounts by sanctioning any government that supports or allows cartels to operate.”

“This legislation will use every tool available from increased federal criminal penalties, bypassing Democrat District Attorneys and prosecutors who refuse to apply existing federal law, and even denaturalization,” she continued. “There is a war going on that affects every single American, but it’s not in Ukraine or the Middle East, it’s on our Southern border.”

Greene’s co-sponsorship marks a rare occasion on which she and Crenshaw have openly cooperated. The two clashed on sending arms to Ukraine and other foreign policy issues.

The Washington Examiner reached out to Greene for comment.
