Police in Tennessee discovered a woman on Saturday who said she had escaped captivity after being held in a closet for months.

The discovery occurred around 1:30 p.m. when authorities responded to a domestic violence complaint after a man working in the area had said a woman had approached him and said she had escaped her captor.

“Officers arrived to find the victim hiding under a new construction home in the area. The 40-year-old victim had facial cuts and was reported to be very thin, weighing under 100 pounds,” according to a release shared by the Dyersburg Police Department.

For over two months, she had been condemned to stay in a locked closet that she could only leave for an hour a day, the victim said, according to police.

“The victim was provided very limited food and no bathroom facilities. Officers and detectives were able to locate the vacant house on Ayers Street where the victim was being held. Evidence found included human waste inside the residence as described by the victim.”

The victim identified 30-year-old Brenton Bell as the suspect.
