Oklahoma votes down recreational marijuana

Oklahoma voters have rejected a measure that would have legalized recreational marijuana in the state.
The Associated Press called the vote just after 9 p.m. The measure failed with nearly 63% of voters voting against legalization.

If the measure had passed, it would have allowed Oklahomans 21 and older to possess up to an ounce of marijuana and grow six mature plants and six seedlings, according to CNN. A 15% tax on recreational sales of marijuana would have been implemented as well.
Gov. Kevin Stitt (R-OK) released a statement after the votes were tallied.
“Oklahomans rejected State Question 820. I believe this is the best thing to keep our kids safe and for our state as a whole,” he said.

“Oklahoma is a law and order state. I remain committed to protecting Oklahomans and my administration will continue to hold bad actors accountable and crack down on illegal marijuana operations in our state,” the statement continued.
