CPAC 2023: Candace Owens bashes conservatives who ‘break bread’ with liberals

NATIONAL HARBOR, Maryland — Commentator Candace Owens gave a blunt message to conservatives who excessively cater to liberals: “We don’t need you.”

“I say this from the bottom of my heart, so heed this well. If you are somebody who believes that we will meet and sit down and break bread with the Left on these various topics and figure out how we come together — we don’t need you. We need fighters,” she proclaimed at the Conservative Political Action Conference to applause.

Owens then rattled off a handful of issues on which she said, “There is no middle ground,” such as transgenderism, and implored conservatives to “have the courage to say what needs to be said.” She further vowed to “never stop fighting like hell” for what she believes in.

“The battle is now. We are deciding upon the future for our children — for my children, and I’ve never been more committed,” she said.

Throughout her fiery speech, Owens bemoaned the state of affairs in the United States, particularly among youth, while pinning some of the blame on the education system.

“Children are getting dumber and dumber and dumber. And you have to ask yourself why or how that is,” she said before citing the prevalence of college degree programs she deemed “soft subjects.” “Why would we need somebody with a degree in gender studies? There’s nothing that that person can do to contribute to our society once they leave college.”

Speaking at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in a bright yellow suit, Owens recounted a recent tweet from her Daily Wire colleague Matt Walsh. In the tweet, he flagged a letter written by a Civil War infantryman during the conflict whom he claimed was 18 years old at the time of writing it.

“This is not written by somebody who had a formal education. It was written by an 18-year-old … on the battlefield, and it reads like haunting poetry. And it begs the question: What on earth has happened?” Owens bemoaned. “We are suddenly in a society where there is so much formal education. Do you think the average people can describe what they’re seeing in that way?”

Owens contended that left-wing forces, particularly in academia, are “brainwashing” the next generation with “bad or dangerous ideas” and cited climate change, transgenderism, and feminism as examples.

“Yes, the Left is radical, but they are ever so intentional. They are Machiavellian. They know exactly what they are doing,” she warned. “The truth is that their intentions are to go after the one thing that stands between them and absolute power, and that is the family unit.”
