Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) is demanding documents and answers from Attorney General Merrick Garland regarding the Justice Department of Justice’s investigation of Hunter Biden.

In a letter to Garland on Tuesday, Jordan expressed his concern about the “appearance of a conflict of interest” by the DOJ in not appointing a special counsel for investigations into President Joe Biden‘s son.

“To date, you have declined to appoint a special counsel in this matter, despite appointing special counsels in other investigations. Your refusal to appoint a special counsel here is conspicuous in this context,” Jordan said in the letter.

He also requested documents from employees in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware relating to the status of a special counsel for the Hunter Biden investigation, along with communications between employees of U.S. attorney’s offices who could bring charges against Biden.

Jordan has requested the information by March 14 at 5 p.m. as part of the House Judiciary Committee‘s oversight of the DOJ.

The Justice Department has been resistant to cooperating with the Jordan-led Judiciary Committee, with the department missing deadlines for requested documents relating to classified documents investigations of Joe Biden and Jordan accusing the department of being “scared to cooperate” with investigations.

Jordan’s calls for a special counsel to look at Hunter Biden’s alleged criminal actions independently echos earlier sentiments by Republicans for separation from the Justice Department, which falls under the executive branch of which Joe Biden is the head.

The House Oversight Committee, under the helm of Rep. James Comer (R-KY), has taken an active role in examining the business dealings of the Biden family, including of the president’s son. The committee chairman recently said one of Hunter Biden’s business partners has been cooperating with the committee’s investigation into the junior Biden.

Comer is expected to grill Garland when he testifies before the Oversight Committee on Wednesday.

The president’s son has not been charged by the DOJ, but reports in January indicated the junior Biden could be charged with illegal tax deductions soon.
