President Joe Biden plans to run for reelection in 2024 but says he has some things to check off his list before he can devote his attention to the presidential race.

“My intention … has been from the beginning to run, but there’s too many other things I have to finish in the near-term before I start a campaign,” Biden said in an interview with ABC News’s David Muir aired on Sunday.

‘SAYS HE’S NOT DONE’: JILL BIDEN GIVES MAJOR REELECTION HINT FOR 2024

He joked with Muir that someone had interviewed first lady Jill Biden on the subject, saying, “I gotta call her and find out.” The first lady gave a strong indication that her husband will run for reelection during a trip to Kenya last week, saying that the president “says he’s not done.”

“I meant what I said,” Biden added. “I’ve got other things to finish before I get into a full-blown campaign.”

Biden is currently battling across the aisle over his administration’s response to crime, abortion, immigration, and the economy. His potential bid for reelection has caused a division within the Democratic Party, as voters and politicians are torn over whether to support him for president again in 2024 or turn their attention to a new candidate.

Biden has not formally announced his campaign, but party leaders are rallying behind him out of fear of the reelection of former President Donald Trump or the nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024.

According to a recent Fox News primary voting poll, 37% of Democratic primary voters want to keep Biden as the party’s nominee, and 53% hope the Democrats select another candidate in 2024, following a similar trend across other polls over the last few months.

Progressive Marianne Williamson said she was formally announcing her candidacy for president on March 4, making her the first high-profile Democrat to enter the 2024 race.

Speculation surrounds Harris, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) as potential replacements for the Democratic nominee as the party plans for a post-Biden White House.
