University of Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh surprised an Ann Arbor police officer Wednesday when he braved an ice storm to help clear a fallen tree blocking a local road.

The incident took place around 8 p.m. while officer Howard Cooper was doing his best to clear the fallen tree, according to the Ann Arbor Police Department.

Cooper was doing his best when a van pulled up and a Good Samaritan emerged to assist him.

“To the surprise of Ofc Cooper, the good Samaritan was @CoachJim4UM who wanted to help clear the road,” Ann Arbor police tweeted. “Ofc Cooper then gave Coach a pair of work gloves and the two of them went to work.”

“After about ten minutes they were able to, inch by inch, get the entire tree moved to clear a lane for traffic to pass through. We thank Coach Harbaugh for being a valued member of the Ann Arbor community and helping out Ofc Cooper,” the post continued.

Officer Cooper thanked the Wolverines coach for his help.

“You’re a good man,” he said.

“Hey, feel free to spread the word on that,” Harbaugh replied. “Don’t feel like you have to keep that to yourself.”
