Karine Jean-Pierre blunders, calls Biden ‘President Obama’

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre mistakenly called President Joe Biden “President Obama” during a press briefing Thursday.

Jean-Pierre was discussing Biden nominating Ajay Banga as the president of the World Bank earlier Thursday when she erroneously announced Obama had made the nomination before quickly correcting herself.

“Okay, so today, as you all saw just an hour or so ago, President Obama announced that — um, pardon me, President Biden. Woah! That is news,” she said. “I know. I know. We’re going back, not forwards. We got to go forward.”

Jean-Pierre previously worked in the Obama administration in the White House Office of Political Affairs, and she also served in Obama’s 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns.

She has worked in the Biden administration since January 2021, first as deputy press secretary and since May 2022 as press secretary. Biden served as vice president during the Obama administration before he was elected as commander in chief in 2020.
