Lori Lightfoot under fire for allowing ‘homeless encampments’ to grow at O’Hare

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) is under fire as what many are calling “homeless encampments” continue to fester inside O’Hare Airport.
“Chicago’s O’Hare Airport is a squalid homeless encampment,” according to one commentator who posted images of homeless seeking refuge in Chicago’s flagship airport. “But the Lightfoot regime won’t change a thing.”

Lightfoot, who repeatedly claims that Chicagoans’ safety is a major concern for her, said her government seeks to address major issues through a “trauma-informed” strategy.
“Outreach is not enforcement and [our department] will continue to respond to community needs through trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches,” Lightfoot’s office said, according to a report.
Along with the city’s homeless crisis, Lightfoot and Chicago’s Democratic leadership are also facing criticism for pushing to use an abandoned Kmart building to house illegal immigrants.
“Mayor Lightfoot’s Chicago, America,” one Twitter user tweeted. “A once beautiful city, Chicago has become a boarded up, crime infested, and filthy city under Lightfoot’s Progressivism. SMH.”

“Homeless are now living at Chicago O’Hare Airport. This problem perfectly sums up Joe Biden, Mayor Pete and Lori Lightfoot’s failed leadership,” another user posted. “The United States of America is so much better than this.”
A recent poll noted that 71% of respondents believe that, under Lightfoot, the city is going in the wrong direction, per the report.
