A Washington, D.C., area man died Wednesday after the dog leash tied to him became caught in a train door and dragged him down the tracks at the Dunn Loring Metro station in Vienna, Virginia.
The victim, identified as 50-year-old Harold Riley, got off the train around 1:30 p.m. before his dog Daisy could and was unable to free himself from the leash before the train began moving, according to a report.

Riley was then dragged by the train down the platform and on the tracks, Metro Transit Police said.
He had been roughly 450 feet from the operator’s cab when the train began to move, and the operator had reportedly performed at least two door safety checks.
Police attempted to save Riley with lifesaving measures, and he was rushed to a local hospital, where he was declared dead.
Daisy did not appear to have any identification tag, but Riley’s family said she was his service dog, according to the report.
Only service animals are permitted to be in the Metro system, Metro officials said. All other animals are required to be transpired in carriers.

She is currently being taken care of by another family because Riley’s daughter said she needed to be relocated due to her family’s other animals.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
