Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) reacted to news that Nikki Haley has announced her 2024 presidential candidacy, welcoming her to the race and offering a list of campaign suggestions for whoever enters the race.

“I think she has to do a little more than say, ‘I’m young,’” Kennedy told Fox and Friends on Tuesday.

Haley, the former governor of South Carolina and former United Nations ambassador, announced her presidential bid in a video Tuesday morning.

“I think competition makes all of us better. I think you’ll see other people get in the race, but they need to start to talk straight up to the American people,” Kennedy continued. “Tell them what they believe. Don’t lie. If they change their mind on something, explain why they changed their mind, but more important, tell us what they would propose in their first 100 days of office or one year in office. And don’t just complain.”

While the Louisiana senator admitted he did not know Haley personally and declined to say whether he’d support her, Kennedy did offer a firm prediction for the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.

“Here’s my prediction about the presidential race: The experts will be wrong,” Kennedy said.

He also commented on the expectation that Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) will announce his presidential bid.

“Tim’s a good man,” Kennedy said. “He’s extraordinarily intelligent, and he loves this country.”

With Haley’s announcement, she becomes the first major Republican to challenge former President Donald Trump.
