Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said Twitter CEO Elon Musk’s decision to expose “Big Tech censorship” and “collusion with the deep state” has caused other social media companies “to lose their minds.”
“The folks at Google and YouTube and Facebook and TikTok, they are losing their minds because a member of the club wasn’t supposed to admit it. They were supposed to stand lockstep, arm in arm, and deny it, deny it, deny it, and now we have the evidence, we have the emails,” Cruz said on Fox News’s Hannity. “It’s clear that when Democrats said to move, Big Tech said, ‘How high?’ They jump on command, and I gotta say it’s fundamentally corrupt.”

On Monday, Cruz, who is the ranking Republican on the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, put social media companies on alert, launching an investigation into their content moderation practices to determine whether conservatives have been censored.
“I believe that Big Tech censorship is the single greatest threat to free speech in America and it’s the single greatest threat to free and fair elections, and the reason that it’s gone on so long is because it has been in darkness,” Cruz added. “The objective of this investigation that I launched today is to bring sunlight and transparency and to expose what they’re doing and hold them accountable.”

Cruz said he will use the recent multistage release of “Twitter files” that displayed screenshots of internal communications confirming the social media platform’s use of tools to limit free speech as a “road map to go after Facebook, Google, YouTube, TikTok, all of Big Tech that is trying to silence conservatives, and we are going to bring accountability.”
