Portions of the Fulton County, Georgia, special grand jury report investigating former President Donald Trump and his allies’ efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state will be released on Thursday, a judge ruled Monday.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney said he would allow three sections of the grand jury report to be made available to the public after local prosecutors considering charges in the case urged him last month to keep the final report under seal. Most of the report will remain concealed, but the details could provide insight into the internal deliberations of the grand jury’s investigation.

Portions of the report slated for public release include the panel’s introduction and conclusion, along with a section in which the grand jury “discusses its concern that some witnesses may have lied under oath during their testimony to the grand jury,” according to McBurney’s eight-page order.

GEORGIA JUDGE MAY RELEASE GRAND JURY REPORT ON TRUMP’S ATTEMPT TO OVERTURN 2020 ELECTION

During a Jan. 24 court hearing on whether to release the report, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis told McBurney to keep the report sealed to protect a criminal investigation and shield the rights of potential “defendants” in the case, using terms that suggested charges could be filed based on the grand jury’s discoveries.

Willis added in the hearing that charges filed in the case would be “imminent.”

The grand jury, which doesn’t have the power to issue indictments, has recommended that the report be made public.

First elected as district attorney in 2020, Willis began her investigation into alleged election interference days after a recording was posted of a January 2021 phone call Trump made to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger urging him to “find” enough votes to overturn his defeat in Georgia.

Other areas of focus for the special grand jury include the formation of a so-called alternate slate of GOP electors, who met at the Georgia Capitol in December 2020 and signed certificates purporting that Trump had won the Georgia general election.

Willis commissioned the grand jury’s formation last year due to its ability to issue subpoenas for witnesses’ testimony. The panel heard several testimonies from figures in Trump’s close network, including Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), as well as Georgia officials, such as Gov. Brian Kemp and Raffensperger.

The Washington Examiner contacted Willis’s office for a response.
