Super Bowl 2023: Chris Stapleton’s national anthem performance compared to Whitney Houston

Country singer Chris Stapleton is being praised for his “phenomenal” performance of the national anthem prior to the Super Bowl 2023 kickoff.

Following Stapleton’s bluesy rendition Sunday night, fans immediately reacted, noting how several were moved to tears.

“The national anthem was great,” one fan wrote. “Chris Stapleton was phenomenal. Brought the Eagles coach to tears.”

Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce was also noted for being emotionally moved by Stapleton’s performance.

“Seeing tears in the eyes of Coach Sirianni and Jason Kelce during Chris Stapleton’s rendition of the national anthem was a truly touching moment. Love to see people who truly love their country!” a Twitter user wrote.

Many drew comparisons to Whitney Houston’s 1991 Super Bowl national anthem performance.

“Chris Stapleton might’ve just sang my favorite Super Bowl rendition of the National Anthem (Whitney Houston aside),” a tweet noted.

Another wrote: “Grown-a** men crying to Chris Stapleton singing the National Anthem. Wow, this one is right up there with Whitney Houston’s performance. Just amazing.”

Stapleton is an eight-time Grammy winner who also boasts 15 Country Music Association awards and 10 Academy of Country Music awards.
