“Lift Every Voice and Sing” is often called “The Black National Anthem,” per the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The song comes from a poem written by NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson in 1900. Later, his brother, John Rosamond Johnson composed music for the lyrics.
