Super Bowl 2023: Flyover to be performed by all-female crew

The Super Bowl LVII flyover is set to be performed by an all-female crew, a first in the big game’s history.

The moment is being used to celebrate 50 years of women flying in the Navy, according to a report.

At least three squadrons of tactical Navy aircraft will conduct the flyover following Chris Stapleton‘s performance of the national anthem at Glendale’s State Farm Stadium.

The personnel and aircraft arrived Tuesday at Arizona’s Luke’s Air Force Base, where the flyover team will depart on Super Bowl Sunday.

“Welcome to Fighter Country!” the base tweeted.

“@usnavy aircraft and personnel conducting the #SBLVII flyover arrived at Luke AFB this afternoon!”

Women first began training at Naval flight school in 1973, according to the Navy, and since then, they have played key roles at every level of Naval aviation.

“It’s not a feeling I can even put into words,” said Lt. Katie Martinez, who is set to be a part of the flyover crew.

“It doesn’t get bigger than the Super Bowl, and I am humbled and honored to be able to participate with my friends and fellow Naval aviators as part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
