House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) confirmed that Rep. George Santos (R-NY) is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee.

Actions the House takes will depend on what the committee discovers during its investigation, CNN reported.

“Ethics is moving through, and if ethics finds something, we’ll take action,” McCarthy said. “Right now we’re not allowing him to be on committees from the standpoint of the questions that have arisen.”

This confirmation comes as Santos is facing multiple federal and state investigations into his campaign financial records and fabrications on his resume, including employment, education, and family history.

Santos told CNN that he is “not concerned” about the House investigation. He also is not worried about the constituents arriving at Capitol Hill on Tuesday to protest for his removal from Congress. A release of their arrival says that residents of New York Congressional 3rd District will deliver a petition signed by over 1,000 constituents calling for a vote to remove him from Congress “after he defrauded voters and lied about most aspects of his life.”

The petition will be delivered to McCarthy, House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, and other Republican leaders.

Santos told reporters he looks forward to welcoming them and rejected the notion that he is a distraction.

“You’re saying that the freedom of speech of my constituents is a distraction to my work?” Santos said. “Do you think people are a distraction to the work I’m doing here?”

Santos is also facing sexual harassment allegations from Derek Myers, a former journalist and staffer in his Washington, D.C., office, who says Santos groped him and invited him back to his house and out to bars. Myers also claims Santos fired him after promising pay for his work, while Santos said Myers was fired for recording a conversation with the representative.

The New York representative has “100%” denied the allegations.
