Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich predicted that President Joe Biden’s upcoming State of the Union address will be a “boring speech” filled with “untruths.”

“Frankly, it’s likely to be a fairly boring speech, and I think it reflects the gradual decline in the Democratic Party,” Gingrich told Fox & Friends on Monday. “He’ll probably have some rhetorical talk about a better future, and in between, he’ll attack Trump and the MAGA Republicans. That’s my guess.”

Biden is set to deliver his address before a joint session of Congress on Tuesday. The speech comes in the wake of favorable unemployment numbers for January that came out last week and the shooting of a suspected Chinese spy balloon. Gingrich theorized that Biden’s speech will be full of “lies” about his accomplishments in office.

“[He’ll] say, ‘You’re really better off. I’ve really defeated inflation. The deficit’s really down dramatically. We’re really controlling the border.’ Nobody’s going to believe any of that stuff. He’s going to proudly announce that [after] having allowed the Chinese spy balloon to go all the way across the country and complete his mission, they finally shot it down off South Carolina,” Gingrich added.

Gingrich, who has long been a fierce critic of Biden, was asked about a recent Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll that found only 37% of Democrats favor Biden pursuing a second term in office.

“[There were] like 6 1/2 million fewer Democrats today than in 2018, and they had the lowest turnout in, I think, 20 elections among Democrats in 2022. So, a lot of people [are] drifting away from the Biden Democratic Party, and I think a lot of Democrats know that,” Gingrich said.

After Biden completes his State of the Union address, many analysts believe that a decision on whether he will run for reelection in 2024 will be forthcoming. Gingrich reiterated his contempt for Biden’s performance in office and argued he has been a “weak” president.

“This is a very weak administration, whose primary strength is the news media, and who keeps telling us things that simply aren’t true. So, I’m assuming that the State of the Union will be a collection of untruths, bound together by Democrats desperately cheering in the House and Senate membership,” Gingrich said.
