Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer has announced his candidacy for the congressional seat currently held by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who is running for Senate.
Last week, Schiff said he is hoping to replace Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who has held the seat for 30 years. Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) and others have expressed interest in the Senate seat as well.
Feuer, a Democrat, has the support of newly elected Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D).

“I look forward to partnering with Mike on Capitol Hill to address homelessness and expand affordable housing,” Bass said in a statement.
Feuer has been the city attorney for nine years. He previously served three terms in the state Assembly, working alongside Bass.
HOMELESS CAMP CLEANUP NETS TONS OF TRASH, BIOLOGICAL WASTE
Among the challenges Feuer says he hopes to tackle is gun violence, which is part of Los Angeles’s rising crime rate.
“With women’s reproductive rights and the LGBTQ community under attack, no one will fight harder to protect fundamental rights,” he said.
Promoting renewable energy and a green economy to the city is also a priority, he noted.
Feuer made national news when he helped spearhead the cleanup of famed Echo Park, where hundreds of homeless people had been living and polluting a lake there. The attorney issued an opinion giving a curfew to vacate the property, which was essentially a hotly contested no-camping ban. This came as police clashed with protesters who sought to keep the property open for homeless encampments.

“I’m running now because we need leaders who’ve proven they can rise to the toughest challenges and achieve big results,” Feuer said in a statement.
