A woman in Michigan is being rewarded for her honesty after she returned a bag filled with close to $15,000 that she found to a pair of newlyweds.

Dianne Gordon found the bag outside of a gas station on Jan. 21 while she was walking to her job at Value Center Fresh Market, she said, according to a report.

She was going inside the BP station for a quick snack when she stumbled upon the lost treasure.

“I looked down on the ground and found a plastic bag with a large sum of money in it,” Gordon said. “When you turned it over, there was even more money.”

Gordon is semi-retired and could have done a lot with the money, including getting a new car since hers broke down last year, the report noted.

However, she never considered taking any of it. “This doesn’t belong to me,” she said. “I need to call a police officer.”

“It could have made my life a whole lot easier but it’s OK. It didn’t belong to me.”

White Lake Township Police Department Lt. Matthew Ivory said that when police received the bag, they discovered wedding cards.

“It never really crossed her mind to do anything other than turn it over,” Ivory said. “These were gifts from a wedding that occurred that day. … I think it was $14,780 worth of cash.”

The money and the cards were returned to the newlyweds, according to Ivory, and, in return, the pair have set up a GoFundMe page to help get Gordon a new car. The page has raised more than $18,000.

“I’m floored,” Gordon said. “I mean, I didn’t do anything special.”

“You find something that doesn’t belong to you, don’t keep it.”
