As Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) is set to serve on the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, her role on the panel could push her to a higher office for 2024.

Speculation is mounting on how the staunch ally to former President Donald Trump could raise her profile enough to be considered as a running mate in Trump’s 2024 presidential bid.

NEW HOUSE PANEL WILL USE SUBPOENA POWER TO EXPOSE ‘TRUTH’ OF DOJ TARGETING PARENTS, ELISE STEFANIK SAYS

Stefanik, who rose to national prominence in her defense of Trump during his first impeachment, touted her “very robust portfolio of effective oversight” to the Washington Examiner.

The New York Republican discussed her role unearthing that the White House solicited a letter from the National School Boards Association to get parents at school board meetings labeled as domestic terrorists, along with oversight to aid in problems in her upstate district.

She discussed how her history of oversight will help her and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who is leading the subcommittee, teach and advise the newer members of Congress on the panel.

“It’s one of the reasons why I think I’m a strong fit for this committee in helping teach and work with Jim Jordan to help members have very strong oversight and it’s based upon standing up for transparency standing up for the truth,” Stefanik told the Washington Examiner.

Stefanik’s leadership on the committee and as chairwoman of the House Republican Conference also comes as Axios reports that Trump and Stefanik regularly talk.

Mike Caputo, a friend of Trump’s and an adviser to him, told the outlet that the former president “is fond of her because, you know, tough likes tough,” also adding that he “respects her because he sees himself in her.”

Trump also recently congratulated Stefanik on her “success,” at a fundraiser in Florida per the New York Post. He said she is “moving fast” and that “at this rate she’ll be president in about 6 years.”

“She’s always been a friend and people would say she’s upwardly mobile. She goes to Washington as a young, beautiful woman who took over and all of a sudden she becomes a rocket ship, she’s the boss. She’s been a great boss, a strong boss,” Trump said.

Trump’s comments only further fueled the fire that Stefanik could be a name to watch for a Trump ticket if he wins the GOP nomination.
