Close to 70% of people are equally concerned about documents found at President Joe Biden‘s and former President Donald Trump‘s homes, according to a poll.

A recent NBC News poll determined 67% of respondents find it “concerning” that sensitive materials were found, beginning in August with the raid at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and continuing into the new year with discoveries at the Penn Biden Center and the president’s home in Delaware.

In Biden’s case specifically, 33% of respondents say the discovery is “very concerning,” compared to Trump, with 36%. Similarly, 18% say Biden’s document saga is “not concerning,” compared to Trump, with 20% saying the same. Both Trump and Biden received 67% for the matter being “concerning.”

Across party lines, 52% of Democrats are concerned about Biden’s documents, and 53% of Republicans are concerned with Trump’s documents.

“Neither president gets a pass from their partisans,” Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies told NBC News. He conducted the survey with Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates.

This follows a recent poll from Morning Consult, which showed that the discovery of classified documents at Biden’s home and office did not affect his approval rating. It remains at 43% of voters approving of the president’s job performance, in line with the ratings seen at the end of December.

However, NBC News’s poll shows that 71% of people believe the country is off on the wrong track, with 23% believing it’s headed in the right direction. This reflects almost exact responses from this time last year. The NBC poll showed Biden’s approval rating at 45% for total approval and 50% for total disapproval.

The poll also found that majorities believe the Republican-led House of Representatives will be too inflexible in working with the White House and will spend too much time investigating the president rather than focusing on other priorities.

NBC News conducted the poll prior to the news that former Vice President Mike Pence discovered a small number of classified documents at his home in Indiana.

The NBC News poll was conducted from Jan. 20-24, 2023, with a pool of 1,000 adults with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.10 points.
